ADVERTISEMENT: The NationStates Encyclopedia
Nanakaland, in Association with New Genoa, Proudly Presents .::The New NationStates Super Thread::. This is a new idea, combining old elements - many of the old elements made by me. It is a "super thread" and will have national listings (my idea back in April), links, and many more sections and links. I will update it periodically. Hopefully, you will no longer have to go through dozens of threads to get what you want to know. The NationStates Super Thread is associated with the NationStates World Factbook, The Big Book of NationStates Tools, The International Mall and The NationStates World Fair - Port Nanaka, Nanakaland. The NationStates Encyclopedia shares some entries with this thread. This thread is very much an international and interactive effort. You are able to submit links to threads that I may consider linking to, you are able to submit entries for your nation, region, and/or alliance, and most importantly, you are able to use this reference thread for your benifit. This includes a section to help new nations and links to useful threads. This is a list of terms you might have trouble with. There is an archived thread called Sirocco's Guide to the Language of NationStates that is more complete, but it is locked. BUMP: A post which has no purpose, other than to "bump" the thread up to the top of the forum, ensuring it remains visible. Godmode, Godmod, or Godmoding: Terms used in the game when one is cheating or being unrealistic especially in terms of military and fighting. IC: In character. When in the roleplaying world of NationStates, most things in the forums of NationStates and International Incidents are automatically in character. However, IC is used to clarify things, especially used when OOC is also used int the same post. See also, OOC. Newb: A new player, who is willing to learn and tries to become a respected reg. This is a list of nations out there. If you want your nation to be here, just post a brief description here. If you click on their nation name, it will show you some brief information about them. Under some nations' names, there are links entitled "World Factbook Entry" in which it will take you to that nation's World Factbook Entry. Don't submit something longer than five paragraphs. This is a brief listing. Every national description has a link in the name that takes you to the nation's page. If they have no link, then the nation is no longer existant. .:: A ::. Adderton, The Dominon of A quaint and small country, it was mainly settled by two waves of immigrants: the Sang Saus and the Aboriginies. The Sang Saus settled along the coastal areas with the Aboriginies holding the desert areas. Several centuries passed with these two factions never really growing a good liking to each other until the rise of Chief Wiggin Watts, whom brokered the Treaty of Charleston Cliffs, which helped to establish the Dominion of Adderton. Since that treaty, several changes have taken place within the country. The Aboriginies have switched from herding only mustangs to cows, thereby creating a ranching industry that gave a mighty boom to Adderton's economy. The Althing has evolved to the Parliment, with the House of Lords changed to the Barony House, in order to accomodate with the pace of the modern day. A system of railroads was established in the interior of the country in order to link up the two coastlines as one national econmy. There also has been a growth within the Aboriginie community as several wealthy ranchers and railroad barons founded the frameworks of the Union Party, which currently holds the majority in Parliment. Athamasha, The Flaxen Community of A relatively old but fairly isolated nation devoted to pursuing internal perfection. Athamashan politics have been dominated by the Socialist Party since the nation's conception, although other parties certainly have had no small effect on the process of the Community. The name "Flaxen Community" reflects the ideological bent of the nation: Flaxenism, a home-grown philosophy based around older Neo-Sydicalist thought. The Community has an avowedly pacifist nature and absolutely refuses to participate in any armed conflicts unless attacked, in which case it will use its titanic nuclear arsenal. Athamashans come in a few different ethnic groups which have remarkably managed to attain a fair level of coöperation and unity despite their disperate origins. Athamasha's UN Affairs Office also currently serves as the delegate for The Mediterranean. The geography of the Community is fairly monotonous: flat, green parkland surrounding a few titanic cities. Despite the size of each city, no city actually has any power whatsoever, the whole government is run by Unitary Voting. Famous Athamashans include Lev Feinstein, Flaxenist philosopher, Jane Gallagher, chair of the Socialist Party for dozens of years, Michael Horowitz, Free Democrat leader and acclaimed writer, Prc. Usao Pastecxoj, leader of the armed forces of Athamasha, and Rectorius Turris, creator of the Athamashan legal system. Ongoing battles within the country include attempts to cut taxes and crime while deciding whether to remain isolated or branch out. .:: B ::. Bariloche, the Community of After a few decades of anarchy on what one day had been the territory of the Argentinian Republic, the people of the city of Bariloche and its inmediations started to spontaneously create communal groups of production. With the passing of more than 50 years the relations became more complex and the territory involved covered more than two of what used to be argentinian provinces and even crossed the Andes involving several cities of the previously chilean territory. When the population of all this areas exceded the 5 million inhabitants, and political estructures started to appear, a lider appear within the masses: Nicolás Bernal, he lead a movement that had as objective the creation of a government that would organize all the territory and with the passing of time create a direct democracy that would allow the communal structures to survive without the power falling in the hands of what could become to be a corrupt government. Today, almost three generations after this events, the movement is still going and the current leader is Pablo Bernal, Nicolás grandson is striving to reach a more participative democracy. Bariloche has already more than 125 million inhabitants and has claimed territories beyond the original "de facto" borders. The economy is well, the government allowed all communal structures to continue, and the country has entered the international community by making alliances with other previously argentinian territories, entering the UN and also the Legion of Defense. Update: This nation has become a LoD Protector. [see also Legion of Defence] .:: C ::. Carolina, the People's Republic of When South Carolina became fed up with the way the United States of America was being led, they, for the 2nd time in history, seceded from the United States. Shortly after, their good friend and neighbor, North Carolina, also seceded, at the advice of South Carolina. The two former states combined to form the country of Carolina, which has currently yet to find a home that can hold all of its citizens. The elections for president were fierce, with South Carolina governor Mark Sanford and North Carolina governor Michael F. Easley facing off. After the final vote was counted, Governor Mark Sandford had won by 2 votes. Now, he plans to lead Carolina to national prominence. Chimaea, The Commonwealth of The Commonwealth of Chimaea is a nation, including various territories and autonomous regions, which lies in the Empire of Baron. Rich in culture and history, Chimaea continues to thrive as a democratic, multicultural society based on a high standard of civil and political rights and freedoms. Its people come from all over the world; different ethnicities, religions and cultures co-existing peacefully under one flag and one name, yet retaining the unique aspects that set them apart. The multi-trillion Sil Chimaean economy is on par with the best in the world, due to careful and responsible investments, trade and a modern, open market. Chimaea is a strong voice of freedom and democracy in the international stage; an advocate of human rights and political freedoms, our constitution is based on a progressive and tolerant outlook. Along with other Baron nations Chimaea continues to provide aid, diplomatic and military support and a safe-haven for the cause of democracy. Cyberutopia, The Unified Socialist Republic of The beginnings of Cyberutopia date to the Feudal Ages of Japan. During the Era of the Warring Clans, Hokkaido, seeking it's independence and looking to follow the lead of the many daimyos of the larger islands, broke off from the empire to pursue it's own future. Seeing no current importance in the desolate island, it's rebellion was largely ignored. Hokkaido wrapped itself in isolation for the next 500 years. The nation now known as Cyberutopia arose in the year 2009, and quickly rose in the ranks of technological might. According to Cyberutopian clocks, it is now 2092. Many nations and individuals consider Cyberutopia their allies. The nation excels in education and all forms of freedoms, along with medical technology, military hardware, and information technologies. The current population is 1.882 billion and growing. Cyberutopia retains a strong economy which is heavily controlled by the government. The government is presided over by the People's Representative, who has little power and serves mainly as a spokesperson for the nation. All issues are presented to the public, and are decided upon by them. A council of Arbiters make up the judicial and legislative branch, elected by the people of each region. One event defines recent Cyberutopia history, known mainly as the Cyberutopian Incident. An unknown aggressor incited dissenters within the nation to stage a takeover. These rebels assassinated the People's Representative and the High Admiral of the Fleets. After taking power, they imposed a strict authoritarian regime over the nation with a certain Overlord Cortez as their figurehead, but their influence reached no farther than the capital outskirts. Beyond was pure anarchy. Several nations stepped in to halt the chaos, and Cortez retaliated in full force. A nuclear device was detonated within the capital, anihillating an Aelosian army and turning most of the capital into slag. Belem is believed to be behind the nuke, but to this day denies any involvement in the crisis other than "peacekeeping purposes". Eventually the rebels and the loyalists met en masse and a massive battle ensued on the outskirts of the capital. In the confusion, the Head Commander of the Agents, Agent Four, along with the Aelosian Colonel-Commander Elfira D'nan and Thelasian General Thellas (pretty sure this is incorrect, will correct later) penetrated the enemy lines and succeded in subduing Cortez, but not before he turned his own army into scrap along with the rest of the city, and threatening the entire western portion of Cyberutopia with a large quantity of fusion explosives. Cortez was taken in, and has not been heard from since. The former Head of Defense, Duo Migashi, took the office of People's Representative, and Cyberutopia has flourished in a Golden Age henceforth. Drakonics, Protectorate of According to Drakonic historical records, the Protectorate of Drakonics was formed by the leaders of all dragon clans in order to govern dragon society as a whole. The remainders of the various dragon species left Earth by means of which are still disputed (several theories include spacecraft, magicks, and combinations of the two), after dragons were killed off almost to the brink of extinction by a growing human civilization. Dragons left Earth in one massive trip to another planet capable of supporting life but which was quite far from Earth itself; no more specific records of travel has survived the thousands of years that have passed since the Great Migration occurred. Dragon society itself was ill-equipped to handle the human threat; contrary to popular human belief dragons were not warlike and lacked the inherent aggressiveness of the human race. As a result of this dragons were not prepared to defend themselves, and were quickly decimated by hunters and "crusaders". Many of the evils apparent in human society are non-existant in dragon society; racism, greed, and hatred are among these. The Protectorate of Drakonics is run by a King (King Wartorne) and Queen (Queen Shel'Kael); although these two dragons hold supreme power over dragon society they also are advised by an Inner Circle of various Representatives which are voted in by Drakonic citizens. Drakonics are a mix of dozens of dragon subspecies; these include various main types such as Westerns, Easterns, Wyverns, and Anthromorphics, as well as many genetic mixes of all of the above and more not mentioned. The Protectorate of Drakonics takes pride in it's superior technological advances in medicine and exploration. (More specific information of any kind can be obtained by telegramming the Human Liaison via telegram to the Protectorate of Drakonics). Drizzts Army, The Free Drow Land of The Nation of Drizzts Army was formed in 1300 when a large group of drow renegades reached an island full of resources they need to survive in their new sancutary so they could grow the renegade drow peoples to escape the UnderDark of the World. First Contact was made with the British Navy in 1756, and the ideals of Europe reached the island after a long period of isolation. The military became modernized again, and the studies of learning, science, and medicine have been introduced to the renegade drow peoples. Years after First Contact, they fought in the Napoleonic Wars, World War 1, and World War 2 when the islands were attacked for the first time by Hitler's Luftwaffe. They remember WW2 as the struggle for survival to the nation already at war for the first time. So after the war, Drizzts Army was again in Isolation with the NATO countries, forgeting the nation with the threats of the Soviet Union and the Warsaw Pact. But in the years following the fall of the Soviet Union, Drizzts army joined the region called The Zoogie Isles which suprisingly was next door to the island nation. Today, Drizzts Army is a strong nation in the region and still comes on the defense against the terroist group LLF (Lloth Liberation Front) because they want to overthrow the goverment and restablish the Lloth ways and relgion in the nation which would destroy the freedoms. .:: E ::. Empire of The Eternal Dawn, The The Empire of The Eternal Dawn is, from border to border, over three thousand miles in 'breadth'. The land is, however, 65% uninhabitable, due to the propensity towards mountainous terrain in the North. The capital city of the Empire is - highly scenic - Nenya, situated in the nation of Ma-Nenya, and has a growing population of over 300million souls. Nenya nestles against the Bay of Turath in the South, and against the Lake Nenya in the North. To the North of the Lake are the so-called Forbidding Mountains, home to a small population of - modernized - nomadic 'towns' of Nenyans, whom live the way that Nenyans once did, pre-First Empire years. The Empire largely ignores them, allowing them to preserve their customs. Also in the mountains are the Western Sentinels, great two hundred metre tall defence towers that guard the western sea border. They were originally built to deter naval invasions. Nenya is, by and large, the most beautiful place in the Empire. It is built into an ancient forest, and the city maintains a harmonious existance with the natural environment around it; indeed, one finds it tremendously difficult to even see Nenya on an inbound flight. This is partly due to the propensity of greens and browns; although the odd bronze-coloured building can be seen glinting in the Sun. This is also due to the ban on any building in Nenya being taller than two stories, a ban which extends Empire-wide following the Great Storms of the preceding century - storms which killed many thousands of people due to a combination of shoddy construction and over-bearing great tall behemoths of buildings which served only to be egotistical and categorically impossible to maintain. The second capital is Tek, capital of Ma-tek, situated against the Eastern Shore of the Bay of Turath. Tek the smallest of the three 'capital' cities of the Empire; it only has a population of thirty-six million. Having said that, however, it is the second most densley populated, to Nenya. Tek is only thirty-nine square miles in size; that makes density level of close to one million people per square mile. Tek is largely bronze in colour, however, there are also grey and green buildings - these are mostly government buildings, however, and are also not open to the public with the exception of Imperial House (Ma-tek Division) and Citizens House (Ma-tek Division). Turath is the largest city in the Empire, with more than 500million souls. It is also the largest geographically; it stretches along close to 1,000 miles of coast, from the upper tip of the Bay of Turath to the Sea in the South. Turath is highly industrialized, like all three capital cities, but is also the most economically rich of the three cities. It is not a tourist destination, however - unlike Tek and Nenya, which attract millions of tourists every year. The edge of the city is dominated by the 'Ag Lands', where hundreds of thousands - if not millions - of Imperial Citizens work during their 'agricultural service' of three years. Ag-service is mandatory in the Empire, and provides the food for all two billion inhabitants of the Empire of The Eternal Dawn (may it last forever!). The Ag Lands are, however, quite ugly, for the most part; fields after fields of corn crops and wheat, barley, cabbages, and cauliflower, and all manner of crops. There are also pastoral fields, of course; these are situated at the far side of the Ag Lands, but not at the edge of their domain. At the edge lie the Orchard Lands; field after field of glorious fruit trees, with lakes and canals linking them together. These are widely considered to be most beautiful, and can be seen on many a postcard sold in the Empire. The Southern Tip region of Turath is newly-built, due to a nanotech disaster in that area of the city a few years ago; the region of the city was entirely destroyed in that incident. Similarily - like the other two cities - the entire near-coast region is also largely rebuilt, following the Nargothrond Incident during the War of Survival against Morgoth and his ilk. The Empire is, politically, a democracy. It is, however, what may be classified as a socio-imperialist democracy. That is, we have an Emperor; but we also have autonomous People-owned government in the form of Citizens House and Imperial House. Citizens House has three Divisions; Ma-Nenya Division, Ma-tek Division, and Ax-turath Division. Citizens House is 25% elected and 75% selected by lottery from the population over 40 years of age, excluding Nenyans, who must be over 100 years of age in order to serve their Political Service. Political Service is mandatory at the whim of the Political Lottery. Citizens House is the Constitutional Branch of EOTED government. Imperial House also has three Divisions, also Ma-Nenya Division, Ma-tek Division, and Ax-turath Division. Imperial House is 75% elected and 25% selected from the population over 40 years of age, excluding Nenyans, who must be over 100 years of age in order to serve their Political Service. Imperial House is the Legislative Branch of EOTED government. The Executive Council (one Council, one Empire) is composed of: the Emperor; the Queen of Ma-Nenya; the High Lord of Ma-tek; the High Lady of Ax-turath; and the High Lord and High Lady of the Sol Orbital Colony of Vilya Elenosto. Any action taken by the EC must come via unanimous vote (seven 'Yea's). The Judicial Branch is seperated into three disproportionate judiciary-only courts; the Environmental Court, Criminal Court, and the Economic Court. The Imperial Environmental Court (or EnC for short, as it is generally referred to) is responsible for ensuring that EOTED industry does not encroach on the environment beyond the 'sustainable level'. 45% of the judges are elected by joint election by the Imperial House and Citizens House; the remaining 55% are selected by the Executive Council. The EnC may not pass new laws or adjust existing ones (that being the 'job' of the Legislative Branch); it may only enforce existing laws. It can, however, with a super-majority decision of 75%-for, request a change of law/adjustment of law from Imperial House. The Imperial Criminal Court pursues matters of criminal punishment. There are only three CC judges; all are selected by the Executive Council. They don't have very much work to do. The CC may not pass new laws or adjust existing ones. It cannot change law, nor can it create law. It does not have the power to request adjustment/change of law from Imperial House. The Imperial Economic Court oversees Imperial Trade Conglomerate policy. The Imperial Trade Conglomerate is responsible for all economic activity inside EOTED; the EcC ensures that the ITC (an autonomous corporation owned by the Emperor) does not act illegally, and acts only in the socio-economic interest of the Empire as a whole. It should be noted that we do not have a Constitution; our 'Constitution' is underwritten via previous passed laws. It is, therefore, a highly complicated and complex system; this does, unfortunatley, make Citizens House' job very difficult. The Emperor and His Executive Council possess the power of veto over all other branches of Government, but only with a unanimous vote. The Emperor also possesses the power of Imperial Decree; an Imperial Decree may enact any law or action that the Emperor wishes, but, as a power-limiting measure, it may never be repealed (altered by Imperial Decree #221 (the first in Imperial history to be put to an Empire-wide referendum): an Imperial Decree may only be repealed with a unanimous vote of all divisions of the Two Houses AND the unanimous support of the Executive Council). NOTE: Actually more than one nation; five paragraph limit doesn't apply. Eredron, the Confederated Republic and Principalities of Although the geographic region of Eredron has been populated by man for thousands of years, it was not until twelve hundred years ago that a distinct national entity arose on the Eredron mainland. Now known as the First Kingdom of Eredron, it was created by the uniting of the various tribes that inhabited the eastern coastline of Eredron by King Lehir. The First Kingdom lasted for approximately one hundred years, before disease left the empire in ruin; over seventy thousand people are estimated to have died, including King Lehir III. ... [Full Entry in NationStates Encyclopedia] The first great war in Eredron history arose approximately six hundred years ago, when Eredron colonists landed on the northern coast of Ariin and encountered the inhabitants of Ariin; a brief fight broke out, that led to the War of Supremacy. It was during this war that island of Ariin was declared a colonial possession of the then-Holy Republic of Eredron, with the Ariin government allowed to keep its position, with limited powers. Five hundred years ago, the Dominion and Principalities of Eredron was officially created. The Ariin government was forced to renounce any claims of sovereignty, and Ariin was forced to accept the Eredron Senate of Majorities as their Protector, with the Lord Consul Supreme acting as Lord Overseer. Although minor independence movements continued to form for the next two hundred years, Ariin had largely been culturally assimilated by the end of the last century. The first Ariin senator was elected eighty-five years ago, although long-standing statutes prohibit anyone of Ariin descent to hold the position of Consul Supreme. Today, the Confederated Republic now includes Eredron and four unincorporated principalities, and a growing faction calling for increased imperialism. Essenia, the Republic of The Republic of Essenia, a relatively new nation, was founded by a group of settlers distressed over what they termed "capitalistic hate and imperialism". Its people swiftly moved to the Island of Free Freedom, where their ideals seemed to fit in. Taking a large stretch of land in between the Worker's Republic of Darranack and the Armed Socialist Republic of Militanar, they began the process of nation-building. Their philosophy is expressed acutely in Essenia's motto: "Peace And Justice For All Human Beings," the key world being all. Some Militanarans thought the land was theirs, and the Government of Militanar, in a show of solidarity with the new nation, sold a long stretch of land in the far south of Militanar to Essenia. This, too, enraged many Militanarans, but the anger had no real effect on anything. Essenia is a multiparty representative democracy, with a bicameral Parliament composed of the Senate and the Assembly. Both Houses of Parliament have 250 delegates. The Senate's delegates are elected from 250 districts re-formed every election to ensure equality of population. Senatorial elections are held using instant runoff voting. The Assembly's delegates are elected proportionally from party lists, allowing greater diversity of opinion than the Senate. There are four major parties in Essenia: the Labor Party (left-libertarian), the Populist Party (left-authoritarian), the Libertarian Party (right-libertarian), and the Conservative Democratic Party (right-authoritarian). The UN classifies it as a Left-Wing Utopia, a classification that most citizens are proud of. With the destruction of Essenia's embassy in the recent Militanaran riots, many challenges are expected to follow as Essenia's first major foreign policy venture - deposing the new rightist regime there - begins. Euroslavia, the United Freedom Forces of It is the year 203 A.E currently (1 RL day= 1 NS year). Our calendar was changed to the creation of of our nation. In the year 135 B.E., persecuted Christians in the Balkan area were being mass exterminated. They decided to flee to what is now modern day Yugoslavia (the heart of Euroslavia). They banned together to form The People's Republic of Euroslavia. In a series of wars between the old republic of Greece and the people's republic of euroslavia, their freedom was threatened, but thanks to its new found allies, the Italians, they were able to repel the attacks, and the war ended around 2 B.E. The nation wasn't officially recognized until the year 1 A.E. Since then, there have been a series of wars with the Croatians and Bosnians, and these countries were annexed into the Empire of Euroslavia. Peace was finally achieved between all three integrated nations around 100 A.E. and the name of the nation was changed to the United Freedom Forces of Euroslavia. A revolution by former enemy Ulan Baator took place in 170A.E., in which a fake Sultan took the throne of Euroslavia, thus uniting both nations into a Communist Mongolian Empire. Euroslavia ceased to exist for the next 5 years, until it was freed from their rule by a coup d'etat put into effect by Euroslavia's former allies. Since 175A.E., Euroslavia has re-emerged as a world power, and continues to act as a mediator in many wars within a certain radius of the nation. In the year 198 A.E., war was declared against the regions of GCON and A Corp for its foolish plan on destroying the UN. The war never actually occured, and a cooling off took place between all regions within the conflict. Relations were re-established with GCON in 201A.E. and the current President, Roger Lawrence, hopes that a final peace will come out of this. Euroslavia still maintains its Christian roots and is a powerful influence within its government. The Evil Overlord, the Dominion of The Dominion is a large country located on the continent of Forlorn Hope- a continent the size of Antarctica in the central and south pacific. The entire country- including the citizen/shareholders- are all assets of an international corporation known as Evil Overlord Enterprises. EOE is wholly owned by the Evil Overlord, and all of the major government ministers are executives in the corporation. Evil Overlord Enterprises closely resembles the old British East India Company. Trade is paramount, but EOE fields a massive military machine to ensure that trade remains free. The Dominion stays out of most international affairs (wars and the like), unless such incidents disrupt EOE trade. Even then, the Overlord prefers to use diplomacy and occasional intimidation rather than military force. The Dominion is best described as a corporate autocracy. The Department of Internal Security watches everyone at almost all times, and citizen/shareholders are bar-coded and implanted with a bio-electric chip at birth. This makes the Dominion crime-free ... despite the fact that many things are illegal. Foreigners are not permitted within the Dominion- except at the Free-Trade Port of Amida Island- just off the southwest coast of Forlorn Hope. Any foreigners are automatically assumed to be spies, and any spies caught outside the confines of Freeport are usually summarily executed. Despite the Overlord's isolationist tendencies, the Dominion is active in some international incidents- mainly disaster relief and international diplomacy. Several nations have embassies on Amida Island, despite the paranoid restrictions the Overlord places on such activity. The Overlord despises the so-called United Nations, and refuses to have any dealings with that organization. Despite the lack of input in national politics and the severely-curtailed civil rights, would-be immigrants clamor for admittance to the Dominion, drawn by the high standard of living and exceptional health care. Prospective immigrants are required to undergo rigorous screening by the clinically paranoid Internal Security Department, and must also possess skills or knowledge EOE considers valuable. Exonerate, the Incorporated States of The Incorporated States of Exonerate is a fairly new nation, that arose from a region of much strife and civil war. The current Enlightened Despot eventually united the region with a combination of diplomacy, manipulation, and military power. It has been 30 years since the establishment of Exonerate, and now possess a population of over 500 million people. The borders between various ethnic groups and cultures have all been dissolved, and now they stand united together. Exonerate is generally classified as a Libertarian Police State, or Father Knows Best State. The Freedom Experiment, the Community of A corrupt Nanakan general once established a nation in a barren wasteland. Harold Robertson hoped to found a country with absolute freedom - an anarchy as some may call it. General Robertson, along with several dozen other soldiers, founded the nation and called it The Freedom Experiment. The Gothic Underworld, the Constitutional Monarchy of The Gothic Underworld is a young country initially named Atros, but rich in recent history. When it was first formed, the government tried to lead the country by the ideals of democracy, but the unruly people soon made a mess of the politcal situation. Faced with imminient collapse, Atros as a country needed a miracle, which it gets, but not quite in the way intended. Around this time, a 2000-year old vampire, whose name was never quite known although there were rumors of his name being Louis. In any case, he saw that this young country needed a miracle, a supernatural blessing only one such as he could provide. In any case, what happened next came both as a blessing and a curse. With his small vampiric force, and his ability to charm mortals which is prized even amongst the undead, he wrested control of the government of Atros, and to the horror of many, imposed a military dictatorship. Many historians will come to denounce his move, but only he knew that this was neccessary to restrain the wild natures of the people of the defunct country of Atros, and prepare them for true democracy with responsibility. Soon, the underground society of vampires had heard of the Vampire Revolution, and many migrated there, expecting the long-prophesied haven of the undead. But this was not what the leader-vampire, by this time known only as the King Vampire, wanted, for he knew what this would entail: a destruction of the society far outweighing the damage he caused in his quest for power. The Civil War of Atros thus started, and by the time it ended, the King Vampire was victorious, and he renamed the country of Atros the Gothic Underworld, for indeed, although he kept the evil vampires out, a small society of vampires with good hearts are allowed to remain. The reeducation scheme launched by the King Vampire to reeducate the people the meaning of responsibility, took many years and resources, but in the end succeeded. Soon after, one of his human ministers, also a descendent of his when the King Vampire was still human, asked him to give up his power, for he has accomplised his purpose. The King Vampire agreed. However, the people of the Gothic Underworld, used to him for so many years, were not happy to see him go, and asked him to stay as a source of inspiration. Thus, a political deal was struck. Today, the King Vampire still holds his position as head of state of the Gothic Underworld, but retains only power similar to that of the monarch of the UK. He still remains active in the affairs of the Gothic Underworld, pledging his substantial wealth to the development of military aircraft, which constitutes the main defence force in the nationstate today, and helping out in the matters of the region of South East Asia, where the country is now based. The King Vampire is also the creator of a proposal for a new council which may materialize into reality. Now the King Vampire wishes to bring the Gotic Underworld into the new frontier of international diplomatic society. The Great Space Fleet, the Nomadic Peoples of After the destruction of a great civilization, only a handful of people remained. All of them were in the remains of a fleet in the region of Deep Space. They traveled as homeless nomads in the deep of space for many years. In Deep Space, the Fleet discovered a derilict fleet. However, the GSF incountered the Deep Space Pirates. Soon, several other nations got involved and the situation exploded. In the end, the pirate fleet got destroyed and the leader imprisoned in The Great System. Ineffable Iraq, the Oppressed Peoples of Located, as the name suggests, in Iraq, this is another territory of The Ineffable Empire. Formerly owned by Drum Gods, who seized the territory a while ago, after the collapse of the Drum Gods empire their allies the Ineffable Empire moved in to ensure the country didn't collapse in a power vacuum, and to, erm, protect the oil from bandits. Leda Colony, the Ineffable Imperial Dominion of An offshoot of The Silver Turtle, this was originally a small colony used to further the Ineffable Empire's space program. However, the small colony on Jupiter's smallest moon continued to grow, and now encompasses several of Jupiters inner moons, and has turned the rest into military bases. From here, the Ineffable Spacefleets make their small but just noticeable mark on conflicts in space, and also serve the empire providing back-up for ground wars. It also has a large mining sector, based nearby in the asteroid belt, along with shipyards protected by fighter fleets based in the belt. [see also The Silver Turtle] Linthopia, the United Socialist States of The newly formed nation of Linthopia is the product of a group of communists and socialists who left their old homes in the north pacific and moved to the newly discovered continent of New Scandinavia. Four nations were formed, but after only one year, these nations entered a union and became the united socialist states of Linthopia. Linthopia today has five states, since it was decided that the capital city Marx City needed its own state, since it wouldn't be fair if one of the other states got to have the capital. Linthopia is a socialistic country, classified by the UN as "Liberal Democratic Socialists". The country is well known for hard laws against private enterprises (in practice, they are illegal), and a very liberal personal freedom and civil rights system. The flag of the nation features a red background, representing the nations political standing, a hammer and sickle, symbol of communism, centered in the middle of the flag on top of a golden star. From each of the stars "arms", a strip of white goes out to the end of the flag, each strip representing a state. The president is Vladmir Iltjivich, a russian-in-exile, and the prime minister Sandra Kelvan, a canadian socialist, and one of the few female prime ministers. All posts in the government are elected by the people, except the prime minister, who is elected by the parliaments (Linthopia has five parliaments, one per state, each with 379 members). Lunatic Retard Robots, The Anarcho-Syndicalist Commune of The Anarcho Syndicalist Commune of Lunatic Retard Robots (abbreviated ASCLRR, or LRR) is a large, heavily Left-leaning nation which alternates between international policies of extreme humanitarianism and extreme war hunger. The economy is based primarily on interstellar shipping and shipbuilding, with a strong publishing and manufacturing sector as well. Education is free from preschool to post-graduate studies in college. Major political parties are the Progressive Democracy Party (currently holds prime ministership), the Humanitarian Party (currently holds most domestic ministries), and the Global Socialism Party. (Currently holds most seats in the house of commons). Geography is mountainous, with rolling plains towards the south coast. The landscape is dotted with defensive fortifications. Since then, Magnus Valerius developed into a massive nation with several colonies, with its influence as one of the most powerful nations in Kortania unquestionable. After a long period of isolation though, the country's current leader, Emperor Alexander I, wishes to bring the country out on the world stage. At first, the Omzian Socialist Party dominated the nation in an one-party system, but through reforms, Omzian Democratic Federal Republic has finally became democratic in the late 1980s. The nation became pacifistic at the start because the refugees had a negative experience with a war that forced them to leave their original homeland. For the next thirtyfour years, they remained a figure of power in LSN. After the death of Tex Gruntis (I) in the year 37 AU, his son, Tex Gruntis II, ran for president, and won by a margin which was not kept in the history books. In the year 51 AU, a conflict engaged with GCON (Global Coalition Of Nations) which lasted two years. At this point, a second district area was founded, Articolia, and sent as a spy in GCON. At this time, the CCT became part of the Kingdom of the Midlands (see Kingdom of the Midlands) Over the next thirty years (roughly), conflict went on and off with GCON. In the year 86, the cities had expanded so much, that the nation became a large city. A large space/air port was created, and a wall and dome surrounded the entire CCT, as funds were gained by the selling of orbital satellites. Since this time, no major conflicts have happened. Geography: The CCT is a vast, desertous land outside the city. Inside, there are two rivers which have canals spreading out in rectangles to supply water. The wall surrounding has four gates, which all lead to the two freeways, and there are three gates at the space/airport, which open each into three docking bays (Bays six and seven house planes, and bay five houses air force fighters/bombers.). A plan is being created to dig underground in hopes of creating more living space, as well as finding minerals. Projects begin in thirteen years. The Silver Turtle, the Ineffable Imperial Dominion of Once a small, beautiful nation in the South Pacific, The Silver Turtle is now a sprawling economic powerhouse near the north pole. It has been lead for countless years by The Great Ineffable Bob, who rose to power almost 300 years ago, and whose power has been increasing ever since. The Ineffable Empire now spans mulitple nations, with TGI Bob as its emperor. He also founded the infamous GDODAD and The Underwater Bubble, and currently also presides over the Coalition of Evil. The Silver Turtle remains the capital of The Ineffable Empire, with it's capital city containing a 7km square palace for the Emperor. The Silver Turtle's military force is one of the best in the world, and it has military ties with some of those even better than it. [see also Ineffable Iraq, Leda Colony, GDODAD] Super American VX Man, the Militaristic Federation of SAVX (as it is usually referred to as) is an old nation, with ancient histories going back for hundreds of years. However, until the year 736, the region that would become the nation was primarily inhabited by numerous bickering tribes and city-states. The people were united under Graz Mallad to ward off large invasions, and the people remained united since. This ancient heritage has held true to this day, as the people of SAVX are more militaristic than the average person, and are not afraid to fight for what they believe in. The governmental structure has been revised numerous times, with different styles of economy and government being attempted but never quite succeeding. The current Constitution that dictates the nation was accepted in Jan 30, 1736. This document dictated that a lightly regulated form of capitalism would be used for the economy, that certain services--most notably education, defense, and law--would be controlled and funded by the government through mild taxation (OOC: Whatever the nation page says isn't the way things are really run; the tax rate only ranges from 5-25%, depending on the income bracket), that personal liberties would be upheld to the strictest degree, and that a democratically-elected ruler (the Führer, currently held by Hans Müller) would govern from the time of his/her election until his/her death. Should said ruler ever make choices that anger virtually all of the populace (requires a 95% approval), the Elite Civilian Guard would forcefully remove that leader from power, and the state military would not stand in the way. To this date, such an incident has only occured once, when Milo Cathcart was killed as a result of his resistance to the will of the people. The geography of SAVX is varied; 25% of the land is desert/wasteland, and much of the rest is covered in at least semi-fertile land, with many luscious forests and wildlife preserves. Mountains encircle 32% of the borders, with 27% covered by sea. Three main rivers run through the nation, supplying most of what is needed for the populace. (OOC: Parts in italics for future-tech only) SAVX also has many land claims in space, mostly in the form of asteroids owned either by the government or the primary corporations. Numerous space stations also exist, with advances in hydroponics, nuclear reactors, and recycling methods allowing them to sustain vast quantities of life. The government also owns multiple, some more secret than others, depending on their purposes. Other small planets and moons are being explored and researched to see if they can support life with the aid of terraforming. SAVX has numerous allies, with the most prominent being Euroslavia, Nanakaland, Exonerate, San Texario, CornixPes, Drakoniks (for whom we are the primary defense force), Witzgall, Icentom, and anyone else in the region of The Kingdom of the Midlands. Torontonias, the Capitalist Oligarchy of Torontonias was originally a Federation of allied states, all striving to bring the latest in modern technological advancements to all of its peoples. Eventually a rift started to develop between the three nations. The Capitalist Society and the Space faring peoples banned together to force the Communist Society to disband and amalgamate into the new nation, which became the Capitalist Oligarchy simply because the majority of the government is controlled by the larger corporations of the Nation, although a small, community elected Senate still reigns on most of the big decisions made. Wormia, The Federated Stellar Republics of An expansive and large spacefaring civilization, based on similar principles to Earth Western Civilization. Wormia was founded on a planet not unlike Earth, following a fifth and rampantly devastating fifth world war that crippled planetary industry and demanded union between the nation-states that occupied it. The Federated Stellar Republics of Wormia then entered an isolationist period to last the better part of two hundred years, during which countless social, political and technological reforms would take place. This was in part due to the destruction caused by the nuclear fifth global war, most infrastructure had been decimated and cross oceanic communication was unfeasible for approximately 75 years. When 150 years between Wormia's foundation and isolation had passed, the government underwent a severe reform transforming from a democracy to a beneficiary dictatorship. Wormia retained its Parliament to serve as more of an advisory committee to the dictator. The people retained few political freedoms, with the exception of the power to oust the dictator and elect a new one should he be deemed unfit for leadership. This event has occurred once during the disastrous and corrupt reign of Nathaniel Torrent. This governing system is in effect today, and has been wildly successful. The current leader is the somewhat centered George Thomas IV. Following 175 years of isolation, Wormian leaders began to contemplate re-emergence into the world, but the idea was constantly voted down for the next 36 years, when Wormia built and sent the Great Chrome Fleet to seek out and make contact with various spacefaring nations. The Chrome Fleet was wildly successful with species who could percieve chrome as it is, a difficulty not anticipated prior to the launch of the fleet. Amongst these are Baron Aid, a gathering of several major governmental and non-governmental aid agencies for the distribution of aid in Baron and overseas; the Baron Counter Terrorist Taskforce which was created with the intention of providing adequate intelligence and rapid-reaction to a growing anti-Baron terrorist threat and the Baron intervention Taskforce which has the duty of performing military and humanitarian intervention within and without the Empire of Baron. The Empire of Baron has survived internal and external conflict, including a nuclear exchange, and numerous disasters. Throughout these, the peoples of the nations of Baron have held out and helped each other in the spirit of friendship. .:: K ::. The Kingdom of the Midlands (TKotM) To quote the regional description: "A peaceful continent where peace thrives and democracy and communism alike get along perfectly. Our region boasts its good friendship with the UN. This region has many resources such as a perfect climate for growing crops, lush forests, gold, iron ore, and has a top notch technology." TKotM is a place that has been hostile with the GCON (anti-UN region) and the A Corp (anti-UN terrorist organization). The GCON and A Corp are both allies. The New Europe The New Europe is a new region (age: several weeks) with 35-40 members (it tends to vary). We have a very active forum, a website with regional and national statistics, a map (which you get to be on) and every nation entering The New Europe gets appointed a population (to make it fair for everyone, we can't have 5 million-nations fighting against 2 billion-nations, can we?). On the forum, most nations are still taking care of their own history and the development of their nation, but tensions might start to grow quickly. War is on its way to The New Europe... This is a list of organizations/alliances out there. If you want your organization/alliance to be here, just post a brief description here. .:: G ::. The G.D.O.D.A.D. The GDODAD, or Global Dominion Of Dictators Against Democracy is one of the oldest, greatest, and most powerful alliances in NS history. It is a military alliance of dictatorships, at its basic levels operating on a policy of collective defence. Most members are a dictatorship of some kind, be it a monarchy, an empire, or even just rigged elections. It is dedicated to defending dictatorships from attacks by foolish democracies, and it has an ultimate goal of one day ridding the world from the time-wasting practice of democracy. It has close ties with other alliances seen as "evil", such as Arda, The Reich and the UOHN. AT a peak, it had over 100 active members, although now there are probably only about twenty now. However, most of these are over 1.5 billion, with the most senior of them including the leader The Silver Turtle having populations of over 2 billion. It has a reputation for warmongering, but this is quite undeserved. Although it has been embroiled in three world wars, it started none of them. WWIV, WWV and WWVI were all started by the nations on the "good" side, with the express purpose of destroying The GDODAD. Yet they all failed, with The GDODAD remaining as powerful as it ever was. The Legion of Defence (LoD) Founded on January 1, 2004 by Nanakaland, this organization was first known as the NationStates Protectorate Service. Over time, it grew in size and got boards. It's name is now the Legion of Defence (LoD). The LoD is now a massive organization with over twenty members and may soon affect the tide of future events. The Legion is ruled by the Council, an elected governing body currently having Nanakaland, Unum Veritas, Falastur, Exonerate, The Last Anarchy Order, and Eriopia.
